In case you missed it: I asked one of my favorite bands, YACHT, if I could video interview them when they came through Lawrence to play at the Jackpot. YACHT is one of my favorite bands ever. They’re fascinating, energetic, catchy and very, very nice. I saw them at the Jackpot in 2009, but was too shy to say anything to them. When I heard they were coming back to the Jackpot in 2012, I decided I had to ask them if I could interview them. It all started with an Instagram comment, leading to a Twitter follow-up and email confirmation.
This wouldn’t have been as fun or successful without Alex or Rob. I am a firm believer now in working with videographers who have different styles than you. While I focused mostly on my interview questions and single camera I brought along, Alex brought two cameras and lights, and encouraged us to get live footage of the entire show. Both him and Rob helped me out expecting nothing in exchange. Nice, right?
Anyway, this video means a lot to me, because making videos is something I do mostly for fun, and I’m so happy when I see each one completed. My favorite projects are videos I dream up all by myself with some help along the way. Shooting live music, creating documentary-style videos, editing, interviewing, etc., etc., is fun for me. Coupling that passion with other people and in the process, getting to meet and film one of my favorite bands, was amazing.
Keep doing what you love!
Way to go, Jess!
